Watch Holy Motors on demand: 'A gorgeous furry teacup'

But late on in this year's competition, a fruitcake new contender started tail-gating the favourite. It snuck up behind it, in a mask, in a white limo, chatting away, singing, swinging, licking and whooping. That film was Holy Motors, Leos Carax's triumphal return to form. Charlotte Higgins reported the ripple , Peter Bradshaw gave us his first take on the film and the team reviewed the movie on video. Reading this on mobile?
