Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger's engagement unleashes swarms of snark

Your title as arguably the most hated celebrity couple has finally been toppled – and by a pair of Canadians, no less Pop singer Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback – henceforth known as Chavril – made their engagement public Tuesday night . The announcement proved all the more shocking as the relationship had somehow gone on undetected for six months with nary a snarky tweet or late-night joke to account for it. That ended two weeks after the couple's 8 August engagement, the announcement delayed presumably to give the couple time to enjoy their new status before the inevitable downpour of mockery descended.
