Mick Jones to play Clash songs on Hillsborough Justice Campaign tour
Members of Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream and Glasvegas will join Mick Jones on a forthcoming charity tour, performing songs by the Clash. Beginning on 1 December, the former Clash guitarist will play six dates in support of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign. Jones will be joined for the full run by Liverpool's former baggy heroes, the Farm, and Pete Wylie, formerly of Wah! Glasvegas singer James Allan will make a cameo at the Glasgow gig, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie in London, Manics frontman James Dean Bradfield in Cardiff, and Richard Hawley will appear with Jon McClure at Jones's Sheffield concert. There may also be further surprise guests. The idea for the shows came from a September benefit concert in Liverpool , where Wylie and the Farm persuaded Jones to play Clash songs such as Train in Vain and Armageddon Time. "It was just a fantastic thing," Jones told NME . "I was very pleased to be asked and it went so well, so we thought we'd might try and do some more." As with that Liverpool show, the Justice Tonight tour will promote the campaign by survivors of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster. Ninety-six people died in a crush at the Sheffield football stadium, at a game between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. Spurred by an online petition, MPs agreed last month to release cabinet documents related to the tragedy.
